Can I use a Ledger without the app?

Can I use Ledger without the application? I just don't know how secure it is. Or is there nothing to worry about? I chose Ledger because it's kind of the safest cold wallet on 2024, but I'd like to hear your thoughts on the Ledger app. I have a large amount of money stored in BTC and want to keep it completely safe.
